Federal authorities has entered the fray in a lawsuit brought forward by California Republicans, seeking to halt the California's recently passed congressional redistricting map.
This legal action, submitted to a US district court, challenges the redistricting plan championed by Governor Gavin Newsom, which was developed in response to a Republican-led gerrymander in Texas.
"The state's electoral map represents a brazen power grab that tramples on voting rights and mocks the democratic process," stated the US attorney general.
